The Man Who Walked Between The Towers - Caldecott Winner 2004

Three years after the 9/11 tragedy this book was released. Once again, I was working at our local library when the book became a Caldecott Winner. I remember checking the book out and taking it home to read it. At the time, I remember thinking the book was only "ok" but didn't think it award worthy.

Now, that I'm a "few" years older, I see how incredible this story really is!

When Philippe Petit had the vision of walking a rope between the two towers, he made his vision come true, even when others doubted him, and told him no. Although what Philippe did was extremely dangerous, he spent his time planning, and making sure he was well prepared for his dangerous act.

Before reading this story, I had never heard of the courage of Philippe Petit. But, after reading it, I decided to learn more about him. I learned that Philippe was only 24 when he danced across the towers, and it took him 6 years to plan his adventure. The book was true to the story that when Philippe decided to finally come down from the wire, he had slew of cops waiting for him.

When I was reading the story, I was amazed at the courage and tenacity that Phillipe had. Has there been a time that you had a goal and did everything in your power to reach it?
